Original Concept by THG Creative, Jon Plsek
The Hettema Group is a dynamic experiential design firm that
houses a team of experienced designers, architects, media producers,
illustrators, master planners, engineers, technical designers, and project
managers. We were fortunate enough to
welcome a new graphic artist, Jon Plsek, a Creative Designer with a refined
ability to captivate the viewer by understanding the project’s target audience
and the client’s vision.
Jon Plsek, with a background in themed entertainment design, joined THG this past June. His primary focus is concept design
development and illustration.
As part of his studies, Jon created a concept for The
Chicago Grandé Casino, a
Roaring 20s themed casino located in Chicago.
It is a three story Art Deco style structure with a speakeasy called The
Blind Tiger, a theater called Années Folles and an iconic sculpture anchoring
the environment.

High Roller wins 2015 Structural Awards
The Vegas High Roller is currently the tallest observation
wheel in the world, a Guinness World Record Holder, it stands at 168 meters
tall. Nestled on the Las Vegas Strip, it
is a major new landmark and key feature in a new pedestrian street development
in the city.
The Vegas High Roller won the award for Arts or
Entertainment Structures in the 2015 Structural Awards. It is the first observation wheel that doesn’t
utilize a truss for the rim, but a single, tubular chord.
Judges Comments:
The judges were impressed by two aspects of this
engineering feat. Firstly, the logical development of Giant Observation Wheels
from a three chord rim in London to a two chord rim in Singapore and now, the
ultimate, a single tube at Las Vegas. And secondly, the rigour and
diligence of engineering the mechanical details and fatigue resistance
throughout.
