High Roller wins 2015 Structural Awards

The Vegas High Roller is currently the tallest observation wheel in the world, a Guinness World Record Holder, it stands at 168 meters tall.  Nestled on the Las Vegas Strip, it is a major new landmark and key feature in a new pedestrian street development in the city.

The Vegas High Roller won the award for Arts or Entertainment Structures in the 2015 Structural Awards.  It is the first observation wheel that doesn’t utilize a truss for the rim, but a single, tubular chord.

Judges Comments:

The judges were impressed by two aspects of this engineering feat. Firstly, the logical development of Giant Observation Wheels from a three chord rim in London to a two chord rim in Singapore and now, the ultimate, a single tube at Las Vegas. And secondly, the rigour and diligence of engineering the mechanical details and fatigue resistance throughout.
